I think the world has gone mad.

It always has been.

1 For any new variant to be detected, it probably already exists in most of
Europe.

Yeah, those wogs cant get anything right.

2 It could well be that by trying to stop the spread, we have bred the new
variant simply by natural selection,

That happens even when no one is trying to stop the spread.

since only the strain best at spreading will spread.

Duh.

This is how evolution works.

Duh.

I'm just surprised its taken so long.

I'm not, some viruses mutate more slowly than others.

SARS died out.

However it will also breed for a less fatal version as well, since
incapacitating a host animal will by itself limit spreading.

There is no evidence that this variant is more lethal.

The crucial thing we breed for as it mutates is a long period when the
person is affected but not ill.

That’s what all the approved western ones do.

After all the underlying driving force is replication, is it not?

Not if you want to stamp the virus out like we have
done with smallpox and are close to doing with polio.

Its no good replicating if you end up killing your host.

Its actually about being contagious before you kill the
host with most successful viruses, like influenza.

So yes its about a lot at the moment, I know four people who have it.

I don’t know any but then we dealt with
the virus much better than you lot have.

None are that ill, but of course have probably infected many others.

Depends on how they did things.

The main thing why its spreading is Christmas.

Odd that we don’t have a problem in that regard.

It was bleedin obvious to me that the students coming home, the school
children being about more and too many people shopping at the same time
was basically a recipe for infection with all sorts of things

Nope, its how NZ and Australia got
a much better result than you lot.

since in the last couple of weeks there has been ample time for people to
take any new strain all over the world, not just Europe.

Not here or New Zealand because we have
enough of a clue to force you lot to quarantine
if you come into the country. n
