What's wrong with an 0330 number? Its just an ordinary standard rate
number like any other but not associated with a particular geographic
area.

But it's quite easy to have a phone number with an area code in a totally different
part of the country from where you actually are.

But why would you want an area code anywhere ? If you choose an area code
in the SE then this will put off people in the SW, Midlands, NW, NE Scotland
Wales etc

Whatever area you choose, will put off people living elsewhere

Whereas by using 0330 you're not putting anyone off but marketing
yourself to the whole of the UK.
