So you want a fixing that will drop the box to the ground every few
years. I could ask, but there won't be any sensible reason.

No. I want a fixing which can be expected to outlast the wooden box, but
not last forever.

My experience is that after 20 years in the elements, even a galvanised
screw would have been pretty well wasted away.
