It was supposed to be. There's no way the Russians would allow Germans who killed
24,000,000 Russians in the war to enjoy better living standards than those
back home in Russia.

While both history and geography dictate that no country can hope to compete
with a country with extensive coastlines on two major oceans, which was built
on genocide, slavery, and the brains of Europe. latterly Jews fleeing Hitler,
lavishly topped off with a good helping of rewritten history and sanctimonious
bull****.*

No country can compete with that; certainly not a country with Russia's history and
geography. As to Central Europe that's always been a mishmash of nationalities
formerly held together under a ramshackle Habsburg Empire which the deprivations
of two World Wars did nothing to improve.Mainly landlocked with whole swathes of
it still inaccessible by road no Central European Country would ever be in a position
to compete directly with the USA. Hence the attraction for them of the EU.
