They never came any simpler, than a mini.

Mini wasn't that simple a car to work on. Compared to say a Morris
Minor.

Getting the rear brake drums off old E93A fords needed
a hefty puller, so DIY brake shoe replacement wasn't
easy. Other cars might have been similar.
