Most home units are very simple. The cooling and heating 'coils' are
either off or on. Just like most electric stoves. The only way to vary
the ammount of heat/cool is to cycle them off and on.

There may be some newer units out that do vary the ammount of heat/cool
in the coils, but that cost more and most do not want to buy them.
