An insult implies intent. The problem with Boris is that he seems to
do these things unconsciously, like his comments about Muslim women
wearing the burka looking like letterboxes. It shows either a lack of
awareness of his responsibilities as PM to set an example to others or
that he thinks that casual racism is the right sort of example to set.

I'm not entirely convinced that it's the role of the PM to *know* the
holiday dates of all the world's religions.

He really only needs to know, or at least check, the five or six most
widely practised in the UK.

You might have a point that civil servants should check this, but it's
almost certain that Boris didn't make this announcement after discussing
it with civil servants.Â* He simply chose the date because it's before
the EU's next meeting.

Which, in itself, is further evidence that he simply isn't up to the job.
