Default ? kenmore washer repair tech advice

The agitator should just -go along for the ride- during the spin
mode....possible something inside the agitator is worn/broken or the
noise is from the gearbox. Brake and or clutch should effect the spin
from working normally if they where giving problems. Maybe take the
agitator out and try a spin to see what noises occur or what happens??

the agitator just comes off of a gear that goes down into a stationary
shaft. the noises stay the same. still sounds to me like it comes from
this shaft where the brake and clutch are (according to the diagrams
avail at the sears site). the only part of this cycle that is affected
is 'spin', when the agitator drive shaft grinds and catches. the
faster it spins the more it grinds until it goes BANG and jerks the
agitator to a stop. i thought that it spun free which is why i did
something stupid like grabbing it while spinning. something from the
drum spin mechanism is catching onto the agitator shaft. i dont
suspect the gearbox because it agitates well (cant grab it then!!!)
and diagrams show gearbox below the drum, not in it. any more ideas?
please? the sears site is junk and they dont offer tech, just sell
parts they have no clue about.

unit is kenmore 110.81662100 60 series washer

Hi,

Kinda -sounds- ( no pun intended ) like the tranny/gearbox is making
those noises if the agitator is still engaged during the spin mode.
Loose/worn basket nut and drive block can make noises but usually
won't effect the agitator.

Some checks for the clutch and such....
