Also it is likely the door seals are dried out and it will happily
leak all over the place.

I'd test it outside instead of in my kitchen...

I had a dishwasher disaster when the steam therein
shorted out the ''control card''.

I now find I can live happily without one, no
doubt saving heaps on power & water.

Consider this option unless you run a boarding
house.

My front-load washing machine brochure advises to
leave the front door open or ajar between washes
to save on seal wear.
