Is that normal for the day of a president's funeral? Or is it a stunt
by Stumpie to a) to make it look like he respected Bush,

President Bush is a true war hero.

So was JFK, but I dont recall that happened when he as buried.
I do recall his little kid being told to salute as the corpse went by tho.

Jesus, JFK's funeral lasted a week and the whole damned city was shut
down. (I lived there and went to school a block from the White House
in 1963)

Idk what the schools did, but JFK was assassinated on a Friday and buried at Arlington 3 days later, on Monday. That's 3 days, mostly a weekend, not a week. Thursday was Thanksgiving, so the schools would have been closed thur and fri for that.

Without checking, part of this is not true or at least unclear. JFK was
assasinated on a school day, some time before 2:30 central time, Dallas
time. So it was not the Friday after Thanksgiving. I know because I
was in class and that was when another teacher, not ours, came in to
tell everyone about it. Yes, Thanksgiving Day was a week later,
November 28, so the 21st was also a Thrusday and the 22nd a Friday.

So we had a full day of class on Friday (maybe they didn't on the west
coast or in the mountain zone), and yes, the funeral was on Monday.

I was at 1736 G st NW DC at 1:30 when Kennedy was shot and it took me
almost 5 hours to get home. I am very familiar with that day. We knew
about it by 1:35. They told us to get out of there before Kennedy was
even pronounced and the city was already in gridlock. (phones didn't
work, streets were jammed, buses were not running on schedule etc).
My father was at the Navy Yard, not in the Ma Bell midtown office so
he was able to get my mom on the phone and I just guessed I would have
a better chance of getting a ride with her than on the bus so I walked
there. It took him almost an hour to get fro 8th and I to Capitol hill
where she worked, I was there by then and it was another 3 to get back
across the Anacostia River. Most of that time was wasted just trying
to get off capitol hill.
The whole weekend you had to be nuts to even try to get downtown and
by Sunday they had Pennsylvania Avenue torn up for that parade.
They take down the traffic light poles and anything else in the center
median, (that used to be street car tracks) weld the man hole covers
shut and all sorts of stuff. Monday they had another show up the road
from the White House and then took him to Arlington. That blocked
traffic all day again. It wasn't until Tuesday evening that they had
things almost back to normal. Like you say Wednesday was supposed to
be a work day but they were off again on Thursday so nobody showed up
and by then, why show up on Friday?
