I just use Panasonic Eneloops or lithium-ions in all devices and
recharge when necessary.
The problem with rechargeables in rarely used devices is knowing
if they need charging before they are used. If you want to use
them then you need to keep them on a recharge cycle, that is
recharge them on a scheduled basis, whether they need it or not.
