My wife just called to say that the windscreen wipers are frozen to the
windscreen. Its probably the result of some freezing rain, which has been
predicted for this part of New Jersey.
Can anybody suggest any way to unfreeze them, other than the obvious run
the
engine and turn on the heat?

A pan of hot water always works for me.
For the four miserable years I lived in Massachusetts I kept a bottle
of windshield washer antifreeze in the car. Pour it along the wiper,
start the car and run the defroster for a few minutes.

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.
