Default Painting column radiators

We've got three or four column radiators (three columns deep) that were knocked about a bit during building work and that could do with a spruce up.

I don't want to remove them from the wall because they weigh a ton, I don't want to drain them etc

My existing plan is:

Clean off all dust, then wash and then wipe down with white spirit
Mask wall, floor, cat etc up with newspaper and tape
Spray it with radiator paint
Hey, done!

Now this looks pretty easy, which makes me worried.

Any top tips for painting them in situ?

white spirit is the wrong stuff. Detergent works, and bulk use of white spirit indoors is a hazard.
