the common name (at least in US; don't know for certain what the Brits
used).

Not sure when production in US finally would have ceased, trucks were
exempt from some of the more onerous emissions reqm'ts for a while after
automobiles so therein is probably where the last would have been.

Off-road equipment, of course, lasted for quite a lot longer.
