Are these door chains that can be screwed into PVC doors and frames
any good?

Makes more sense to use a camera if you're worried about that.

If it is a rare ocassion at night someone at your door just make a
wooden wedge and hold it with your foot, that will stop the door opening
beyond where you `jam` it. The harder they push the more it `jams`
