Yes, if Trump did it without realizing the implications. It also
seems like a bad idea to start ****ing off the Chinese before trying
to get them to do what he wants them to do regarding trade with the USA.
In short, before starting a ****ing match, isn't it better to have a
strategy? He doesn't even have a Sec of State yet.

Why is it a bad thing to let them know ahead of time that there other
options floating around? Knock Beijing a little off their game. Nobody
has dared rattle their cage for decades and I don't see a problem.
Especially since in this case he didn't initiate it.

Here's what's wrong with it. Trump has said we should back away from
Asia, withdraw. He's said he's consider recognizing Putin's annexation
of Crimea. He hasn't said one word about Russia having invaded half of
Ukraine. If you were China, intent on reclaiming your rogue province,
what would you read into that? How much of a green light did it take
for Saddam to conclude that the US was OK with him invading Kuwait?
So, now Trump starts stirring up something that is a potential flash
point, like Berlin was with the Russians, and you see no potential
problem? Taiwan is fine, was fine, why make problems where none exist?

You really think the Taiwan/China thing is going to be solved over a
beer? If it gets solved with words, actions without a strategy, the
likely result is to be China taking Taiwan. Trump has already signaled
that he thinks the US should disengage from Asia, that we have no vital
interests there, etc. How much of a green light did Saddam need?
Plus there is no Taiwan thing that needs fixing, so this seems about
as boneheaded as the bug up Trump's ass about flag burning.

China doesn't have the capacity to take Taiwan and most of the open
source estimates suggest they won't for a decade or more.
They probably
have the numbers in their army, but they don't have the sealift of
airlift capacity to invade. So China couldn't take Taiwan by force yet
even if they thought nobody would say anything.

Nobody thought Hitler could roll right through Europe either. And do
you really think idiot Trump thought about any of that, before sticking
his wick into a potential hornet's nest, a world flash point?
Face it, it's amateur hour with plenty more to come.
