Inept comparison. Reagan never spoke with Taiwan directly. Neither
has any other president since Nixon recognized China. More
importantly, Trump most likely did not do it as part of any new policy
but rather due to his total lack of preparedness for the job.
Expect a lot more of it.

But is that a bad thing?

Yes, if Trump did it without realizing the implications. It also
seems like a bad idea to start ****ing off the Chinese before trying
to get them to do what he wants them to do regarding trade with the USA.
In short, before starting a ****ing match, isn't it better to have a
strategy? He doesn't even have a Sec of State yet.

I am sure he realized the implications. What is wrong with ****ing off
the Chinese?

How about if this whole Taiwan thing, which has been fine for 40+ years,
suddenly becomes a flash point for the world, because Trump has now
raised it, stuck his finger in their eye? Suppose China decides to
force it's way on Taiwan? Are we ready to defend Taiwan, or just let it
go? Why do we even have to take any chance of that happening, instead of
letting sleeping dogs lie? Trump doesn't give a rat's ass that Russia
invaded Ukraine, annexed Crimea. He said he'd consider recognizing their
annexation of Crimea. If you were China, what would you read into *that*?
And why is it that Trump, who has no interest in the sovereignty of
Crimea, Ukraine, suddenly has a bug up his ass about Taiwan? Maybe the
fact that a US citizen, who is friends with a former Taiwan VP,
showed up in Taiwan just weeks ago to look into participating in the
biggest real estate project in Taiwan's history has somthing to do with it?

Bending over backwards for them has not realized any
benefits.

World peace would seem to be a benefit.

**** them off, and make them realize they need to do
something positive to get our cooperation.

We'll surely see where that gets us.

Just like Cuba. Dumbo hands them everything with nothing in return,
just more "hope". Idiot.

Except of course that Cuba is a ****ant of no consequence to us
or anybody else. China is the second largest
economy in the world, a major importer of US products, and a nuclear
power. Regarding Cuba, watch what Trump does. Will he be tough,
demand change? My bet is his idiot sons are already talking to
Cuba about real estate projects and Trump will be the one to fully
open the door to them. It will be all about jobs. And since when
does Trump care about any of the civil rights, human rights, govt
of Cuba? He never mentioned Ukraine once and said he'd consider
recognizing Russia's taking of Crimea.
