The phone has a number of tokens stored in the secure enclave
in the phone, doesnt need to get one from the system to pay.

Thats the reason the best phones have a secure enclave
and keep a number of tokens for ready use in there.

one of the major car rental operations with cash.

I would take plastic for that, certainly. But in addition
to cash. Always take at least *some* cash!

Sure, there are still a few places where cash is most
convenient but you dont need much cash for those.
