Default Sears 27443238190 and GE 26GT620F01 TV Problems

ctc149 chassis, well known for tuner failures as well as the video
discrimintor and aft coils going out of tolerance. Possibly under a $100
repair if the service you use has access to lower cost rebuilt tuners if the
tuner is actually bad.

The ctc166 has probably one of three failures, easy to fix for any
experienced tech, a shorted luminance transistor or a failing 200v video
output scan derived power supply capacitor going bad. Rarely the picture
tube will short causing this symptom in that set or a failure in the
focus/g2 divider assembly.

My guess is that the GE is an older model from the 145\9 era. He says

that it
autoprograms and comes up on 3 when turned on from being unplugged

without
being propted to do so. I'd also guess that the tuner is okay, but he

has
an
AFT problem with affects the autoprogram. I wonder if the rest of the

channels
work on direct enter on the remote.......

The GE is chassis CTC149A. After autoprogramming the unit comes up to
channel 3 and then when any channel button is pushed, whether on the unit
itself or on the remote, it goes directly to channel 91 and will not

change
thereafter.

The Sears unit is chassis CTC166A and everything appears to work on it
except for the picture being predominantly white with scan lines. I can
change channels and audio is perfectly fine. I can even make out OSD
information in the proper position. It is just overpowered by whiteness

and
very out of focus.

I am sorry that my troubleshooting is not very thorough but I am not a TV
tech and I have no way of checking waveforms or diagnosing system control
logic. I imagine that if I had those resources at hand and knew what to
look for and where to look for it I could have probably troubleshot the
problem on my own.

Please note that I am not asking for specific answers here. I am just

going
to go ahead and ditch the units anyway. There is a nice 46" HDTV in my

very
new future. However, I would hate to throw these units away if I could
reasonably expect to repair them for about 100 each and then give them to

a
local charity. I just wondered whether anyone had an expert opinion as to
the repair worthiness of these units. As it stands I will probably take
them to my local TV repair center and have them give me some repair
estimates.

Thanks for the replies.
