Thanks Ross. I went ahead and paid the $55 and ordered the cable the day
before your post. I need it pretty quick anyhow as I need to use the
scanner and can't until I've loaded the update.

Those 9 pin to RJxx adapters typically come unwired. You have to configure
them for your own use, which cannot be determined without a wiring diagram.
