According to the Dulux, this was a short term problem, which was
corrected by a change in formulation in 2011.

And can we get rid of that bloody awful and potentially dangerous Edison
Screw system?

I prefer it to bayonet. I've never had an ES lamp glass break free from
its base because the contact pins have indented into the solder on the
lamp and stopped the base from turning.
