DSL via POTS (plain ol' telephone system) can drop only the DSL signal
OR only the phone signal OR both. I've had good, scratchy, and plain

I have see DSL work when there is no dial tone because the high frequencies that carry the DSL signal were jumping the tiny break in the wire as though it was a capacitor. ^_^
