Duh. Corn is easily renewable. Oil is not.

I don't give a rat's ass if ethanol only gets 50% of the pwr/mileage
one gets from oil. You'll be getting doodly-squat when all the oil is
gone.

You ppl seem to be laboring under the illusion that we'll always have
oil. Again, duh.

predicting when the oil supply will become a serious problem, petroleum
geologists focus on the peak oil point—the time when one-half of Earth's
oil has been exploited. This is usually projected to occur sometime
between 2020 and 2050, although a variety of experts believe it has
occurred already in the United States. The time of peak oil production
is important because we can assume that when that point is reached, the
price of oil will rise rapidly. The Energy Information Administration
presents a range of estimates for the time of world peak oil production,
from as early as 2020 to as far into the future as 2121.11

So, maybe as early as 2020, we'll have used HALF
the world's oil. We've been using the first half
over how many years? So we've got that many yet
to go?

Excuse me for not trembling. Did you read the bit
(not this link, but can be found on the web) that
says that ethanol takes almost exactly the same
ammount of energy (in petroleum) as what you get
out of the ethanol? It's an energy sink, not a
gain.
