There seem to be 12 balls for each team. I know golf balls get
damaged, and baseballs get scuffed, but how do footballs get damaged and
can one side possibly use 12 balls in a game? More than one or two?


The players keep balls as mementos after TDs, interceptions, fumble
recoveries and such.


That makes sense. And I knew it too, come to think about it, but I
guess I thought it was much more rare. (Of course they don't use 12 in
every game. That must be a max.)
