"Consumers who own or lease vehicles equipped with Ford's EcoBoost
engine have reported hundreds of reliability and safety issues. Many
such complaints relate to the EcoBoost engine suddenly and
unexpectedly shuddering, shaking violently, stumbling, misfiring,
rapidly losing power, or going into limp mode while a driver is
operating the vehicle. .....

Water accumulates there for the same reason it does in your air
compressor.

Jonnie Bonkers is quoting an ambulance-chasing law firm that was
trolling for customers. In fact, the NHTSA investigated and found out
that it was being cooked up, and there was no need for a recall.

That was a couple of years ago. Ford has since fixed the problem in
production:

Also, note that the new F-150, the aluminum-bodied one, got a 5-star
safety rating from NHTSA:

Earlier, steel-bodied F-150s never got a 5-star rating. It's in the
engineering, not in the material.
