Hi,
Please, please, please, don't blame thermostat for furnace problem.
Very rarely thermostat is at fault. If your furnace is acting up, you
can read diagnostic code which will point where the problem may be.
Maybe your draft motor pressure sensor hose is plugging up with dirt?
Furnace works on logical sequence, one step at a time. Probably you have
owner's manual or quick trouble-shooting chart on the bottom access
panel. Any annual check up or maintenance done on the unit?
I wonder if the guy from 2002 is still reading
