Why do you think the springs are for?


** To apply pressure to the electrical contacts


I thing you are hunting ghosts.

** Rechargeable cells that are intended to be manufactured into custom
packs are made in a great many sizes and there is little benefit ( for the
makers) in exact standardisation.

So they don't pay it much attention.

And no-one but a fool would attempt to catalogue it all.
