Reading this, I'd be tempted to try Coca Cola as a rust remover.
I believe it has phosphoric acid in it.

Coca Cola is good for cleaning windshields and chrome bumpers when
washed and rinsed.

Will Coca Cola rust a nail? Some say it will.
