I remember reading about a man, in his days of youth would
take a .22RF rifle to the dump to shoot rats. Rifle would be
carried across the handlebars of his bicycle. Other than
cops and security guys, I can't remember the last time I've
seen a firearm in public. Of course, I'm in PRNY.

BTW, when I lived in the Bronx, NY in the 1940s, a guy
used to come
around regularly on a horse drawn cart with a foot
operated grinding
wheel and hawked his knife sharpening business. People
would come out of
their apartments with handfuls of knives for sharpening.

Could you imagine the police response today if people ran
out of their
apartments into the streets carrying a number of knives? ^_^

Or even try this: 1953 I carried a 22 rifle with ammo on a schoolbus
to town to sell. I did get permission fromt he bus driver the day
before though. At this late date, I can't recall if I carried into
the school until I could arrange teh meet with the buyer - another
student.
