motor (but not the sewing machine) which has the speed control foot pedal. I

Back in the olden days these were universal motors and the foot pedal
was just a rheostat. Put a meter on it and see what you have.

If that doesn't work, wander around at MPJA.com. They carry all sorts of
strange stuff like that.
