Even the NRA agrees that sometimes there are ways the law can be improved to
reduce gun violence. After the Virginia Tech massacre the NRA agreed that
the federal govt. should pressure the states to improve how they add names
to the instant-check list, so someone ordered by a judge to undergo
psychiatric treatment due to his threatening behavior isn't able to legally
buy a gun.

The Obama administration isn't going to push new gun laws because they know
they don't have the votes, they felt that way even before the mid-term
elections, even hardcore anti-gun legislators like Feinstein said there was
no point. There are too many Democrats from hunting & fishing states that
wouldn't support any sweeping legislation, and now they're in the minority
in the House anyway.

There is no question that Arizona, with
its "liberal" right to carry laws, is safer than areas that have very
restrictive gun ownership and carry rights. To compare a city to a city,
take a look at the per capita murder, shooting, or violent crime rates of
Phoenix and Washington DC. Our nations capital has a murder rate about 3
times
higher than Phoenix.

Look at Vermont, their approach to gun laws is almost not to have any, yet
they are usually 49th or 50th on the violent crime stats.

So many people just don't get it, it isn't just the guns, it's economics and
poverty and gangs and the failed War On Drugs and crummy schools and a host
of factors. Like the man said, guns cause crime like flies cause garbage.
