Successful.
A 32" Sony Bravia KSL32EX400 LCD HDTV fits the console perfectly.
Instead of attaching the TV to wall-mount then attaching the wall-
mount to a sheet of plywood bolted inside the console, I bought 2
shelf brackets. *In each bracket, I drilled two holes which lined up
with the mounting-holes on the back of the TV. *I then bolted the
other leg of each bracket to the bottom of the console. *Very
inexpensive, easy, neat and solid.
Glad it worked. *Can you post a photo someplace?
I'd like to see a picture too. It's hard to imagine how it could look
good. One big problem is the old TV was 4:3 aspect ratio and HDTV is
16:9, so the cabinet will be way out of proportion to the new display,
no matter how you mount or finish it.
Also, I don't know what particular 80's TV is involved, but IMO, by
that time the cabinets were not great examples of cabinetry that were
worth salvaging. My grandfather converted a 50s era TV cabinet that
had closing doors on the front into a storage cabinet, by putting
shelves in it. That cabinet was polished to a high gloss and crafted
totally different than what was available circa 1980s and also having
doors, was easy to adapt to another use.
