Beware "Paramount" style plasterboard walls - they would certainly not stand
this type of treatment (2 bits of plasterboard with egg-crate cardboard
filling).

Trouble with tiled board, is that it usually rips the paper off
*selectively*.
Cost of skimming to an acceptable standard is more than replacing the skin.
Except as you point out, if it hasn't any structure behind.
