I've mentioned before that my routine carry on my daily walks is a

More than enough.
Hit someone with that a couple of times and it's game over.
Your biggest challenge or anyone's for that matter, is realizing you need to
do something with your weapon before it's to late.
A bigger round won't help then and a smaller one won't matter either. You
are actually better off in that case because you realize in advance that you
are effectively unarmed.
