Default OT-Open warfare in chicago

If we are to believe the Wild West stereotype, the "wild" westerners
became a lot less wild as the most aggressive people were killed early
in life.

Maybe after 100 years of "Wild Chicago south side", things will
improve, due to guns.

A VERY long time ago, I saw a TV interview with Louis Lamour. He wrote
fiction books about the old west, but they had a lot of historical accuracy,
which may be why he was so popular and sold so many books. On the
interview he stated that the Hollywood wild west stereotypes were as far
from the truth as they could be. In the last quarter of the 19th century,
which was the Golden years of the Old west and real cowboys, a lot of the
men had experiences in the war between the states. They were very
experienced with guns, and not afraid to kill someone. They were not the
cowering townfolks portrayed in the movies. He also stated that more times
than not, bad guys were killed by upstanding citizens for actions like
making a pass at the guy's wife, cussing in front of a lady, or just being a
jerk.

In the old town of Pioche, Nevada, the museum made a list of the grand jury
actions of the years around the 1880's. There were lots of incidents where
an "upstanding citizen" shot and killed a bad guy for just such behavior,
and the grand jury deemed it justifiable, and there was no prosecution. The
town was so wild they had 72 funerals before the first person died from
natural causes. There were many "bad guys" found dead in an alley at
morning light shot by "persons unknown"..... case closed. Particularly if
those bad guys were in an alley in the "decent" part of town. Just like
today. Nobody saw nothing, nobody heard nothing, case closed because there
was no homicide division, and the police were happy to see one less scumbag.

Yeah, things will change for the better when the decent people start
shooting back, and I'm really surprised there is not a lot more vigilante
justice than there is. It is more common in rural type areas, with murder
being the exception, but common ass whoopin' attitude adjustments are
common.
