Usually sony is so interested in shaving the last 100th of a penny of
the final cost, that they'll use a piece of tape instead of screws
even if it reduces the lifespan to 5%, as long as it is a likely to be
at least a day over the warranty.


everybody does that these days. It's possible sony just just ahead of the
curve when it came to shoddy stuff.

I don't recall any other brand of television that required a 2x4 to hold
the cabinet up and from collapsing under it's own weight with the rear
cover revmoved.
