Sadly, most of the mainstream press reports are fuzzing over that
distinction, if they mention it at all. I think Toyota may be as badly
bit as Audi was way back when, public-image-wise. Toyota is handling it
better than Audi did, by doing the mass recall and the sales hold, but
they have pockets deep enough to pay for it. In Audi's case, they were
dumb enough to state the obvious- that almost all the runaways were
driver error. The flap damn near made them follow Renault and Fiat out
of North America.
