I agree. Maybe even 1/4" steel, for ease of fab & wide spacers, to
resist the torque. Maybe 1-1/2" sch 40 pipe.


Out of curiosity, I checked McMaster Carr. They will sell 3" thick 6"
disks of 6061-T6 for a little over $50 each.
