Aha, that's probably most of the reason - my cheapy one's a 10" blade
which is what, 254mm. It'll handle a 4" (102mm) cut though, just - so
there's only about 54mm of dead space where the spindle is, rather than
the whopping 80mm that this saw seems to have...
