Default Whitehouse spying on social networking sites

Have you ever been dragged into court over something you've said on a
newsgroup? I have. I was hauled in as a witness in a half-million-dollar
lawsuit four years ago (I wasn't being sued; my former employer was), and
two messages I posted here about eight years ago became pivotal in the suit.
I sweated it, and I was *really* glad that I'm not a bull****ter, like some
of the folks here. Truth became the issue, and what I had said was truthful.
(The case was thrown out after four days of testimony, FWIW).

15 years ago, a certain USENET kook sent numerous faxes to my
employer, demanding that I be fired immediately because "I defamed
him and his patents".

I was not fired for a very simple reason, my employer needed me to
maintain and enhance the software that I wrote. I did not like it, but
did not sweat it too much because I was not married, my only fixed
expense was apartment rental, and I was sure that I could find another
job.
