Might be worth getting high temperature silicone(*) and using the cling
film trick to get the silicone the right thickness.

(*) Not sure how hot the bottom of a lava lamp gets but it'll be a lot
hotter than normal environmental temperatures or really sure what
temperature ordinary silicone can take for extended periods of time.

Instant gasket or similar, silicone will take fairly extreme
temperatures.
