No clearly not. LATIN is the language the french ****ed up.

French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian and Romansh are all very close to
the provincial Latin spoken in those areas in the 5th century. People
have the impression there was only one Latin, but that is not true.
With no mass communication, regional dialects were dominant.
