Default for medicare users: what's some good EXTRA insurance?

(Yes, off topic for this group, but surely of interest
to everyone approaching or over age 65 -- especially with
politicians of both parties trying to cut *all* govt
services.)

MY QUESTION: for medicare users: what's some good EXTRA insurance?

I keep hearing horror-stories about medicare refusing to cover things.

Worse even, I keep hearing horror-stories about doctors (especially specialists)
*refusing* to take medicare patients. (Don't get paid enough?)

So, what's a GOOD place to get some EXTRA coverage?

Someone suggested AARP, but then someone else said they'd heard that
AARP wasn't so good, that it was too expensive, considering the
benefits you (didn't) get.

Ideas?

THANKS!

David
