George, it's time to take your meds. Be a good boy!

I just HAVE to chime in here.
mass producing stuff.
unlimited supplies of raw material, with the exception of rubber
And let's, for the sake of argument, agree that US design was much
better than what the "stupid" Germans could ever dream up in 1000
years....

Unfortunately, the tank was seen as an infantry support weapon, so they
settled for an existing low velocity 3" gun. Bet it really sucked
watching the projectile bounce off the german armor.

In WW2, Allied ratios were 5 Allied tanks killed to 1 German tank
killed.

Even against the superb Russian T-34, the ratio was still high.

http://zhukov.mitsi.com/Kursk.htm

The largest armored battle in WW2 was the Battle of Kursk
(well...not counting the battle of the Gembloux Gap, which oddly
enough..the French won, agains the Germans.....)

From July 4, to July 22. Just a few days more than 2 weeks....

"On the 22nd both forces were utterly exhausted and fighting
(officially) drew to a close. By this point overall German casualties
may have been as high as 500,000 killed or wounded. The Soviet
casualty figures were not released until the end of the communist
regime, and comprised 250,000 killed and 600,000 wounded. They also
lost 50% of their tank strength during the Kursk offensive."

Now compare that to the largest tank battle in US history..the Battle
of Medina Ridge in 1991.....

"During the battle, the American forces suffered only one fatality (no
fatalities were due to enemy fire), while destroying 186 Iraqi tanks
(mostly T-72s and Type 69s) and 127 armored vehicles. Only four Abrams
tanks were hit by direct fire and disabled. Not a single coalition
tank was destroyed in the action. Thirty-eight of the tanks were
eliminated by six U.S. AH-64 Apaches from 3 mi (5 km) away at night
and in rain, and from U.S. Air Force A-10 Warthogs."

It lasted 2 hours.

"Pax Americana is a philosophy. Hardly an empire.
Making sure other people play nice and dont kill each other (and us)
off in job lots is hardly empire building, particularly when you give
them self determination under "play nice" rules.

Think of it as having your older brother knock the **** out of you
for torturing the cat." Gunner
