Right. The two are not connected. The "Castle Doctrine" says anyone invading
your property without your permission is presumed to be a squint and can be
shot on sight (or sound or smell...). Further, the doctrine says you do not
have to retreat before resorting to deadly force.

The "Criminal mischief during the nighttime" is a Texas oddity that says
that deadly force is justified under the circumstances of criminal, and
mischief, and nighttime.
