Default Vinyl pool leak. Now or spring?

on 10/1/2007 10:47 AM Kurt Ullman said the following:
We have an 18 y/o in ground pool with a 9 y/o liner that decided to
develop a leak. We
are closing anyway for the winter. Any particular reason we can't wait
until Spring and just change it when we open? Don't know for sure where
the leak is. Anything I should look at that might be of importance in
making the decision.

How bad is the leak? Will the pool survive the winter without completely
draining? What kind of winter pool cover will you be using? The solid
type or the mesh type? The mesh type will help in adding to the water
level with rain and melting snow.
Most pool liners are only guaranteed to last 10 years. You might think
ahead to replacing it next spring, then it won't matter if it all drains
away over the winter.
