Default Lifting a 900lb mill without a hoist

I would be interested in seeing pictures of your mill cart and hearing
the design details concerning the selection of the components and
materials. Could you post them in the dropbox for the benefit of the
group?

Good luck Rick and let us know how you finally do it.

TMT,

Thanks to you and all the others for suggestions. I toyed with the idea
of building a gantry, but it wasn't practical from 2 perspectives - time
and where/how to store it. I also didn't want another piece of
equipment that may not get used very often.

I also considered inching the mill a little higher, then sliding the
mill onto the cart and to hell with the paint job. But that little
Hardinge is one top heavy mother, and discretion won out.

So I hired a wrecker. That in itself was a trip. Instead of sending
out a medium duty rig, they sent one designed to haul semis. The rig
barely got into my garage - if I would have had a standard 7' door it
wouldn't have worked. Took all of 15 minutes to get her hooked up, in
the air, and back on the cart.

By the time I factor in what I would have spent on steel for the gantry
or engine hoist rental, my time dicking around, and potential for
injury, I think my $60 was well spent.

I do have some pics that I'll post to the dropbox soon.

Thanks again everyone.
