We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember tonytrans
saying something like:

Since when did the
declared inflation rate reflect the rise in the cost of living in any
way?

Exactly; which makes looking over declared historical rates of inflation
suspect at best and downright wrong most of the time.
