Buy a pack for a buck and try them out.

I got a pack for $1 to use with a new MP3 player AAA rayovac heavy
duty. The battery that came with it lasted 5 hours over three days.
The cheap batteries only ran about 30 minutes each.

I wound up buying a set of NIMH rechargables. Strangly enough also
Rayovac.
