Default Toy Chest

Finally completed my grandniece's birthday gift. Almost 2 years in
planning/searching for wood and almost 1 year late but at least she will
still be 1 year old when she gets it this week. On Christmas Day she will
be 2.

No paints or dyes. Carcass is Cherry plywood with cherry trim lock mitered
corners. 19 species of wood make up the picture on the front. The chest
was finished on the back so when she out grows a toy chest, the top can be
rotated the back will become the front. Project included a couple of firsts
for me -- making the cushion, painting the cushion and making the cherry
trim for the front and back. Most difficult color to find in wood was the
blue for the Prince's jacket. Finally tracked down some Blue Mahoe in
Puerto Rico.

That is just beautiful. I hope the family understands the amount of work
involved. What a family treasure!

Very nice. Bonus points for future thinking and designing to rotate the
top.

Wow, quite the project. She may not fully appreciate it for another 20 years
or so. Quite the project.

What a beautiful project ... it may start out as a "toy" chest, but my bet
it that it will end up as a "hope" chest for her, and then hopefully start
the cycle over again for future generations.

Well done!

Thank you all. That was my intention. A chest for all ages! I think we
learn by doing. The first toy chest, one I made for her brother can be
turned around but the top, has characters so there is little point in
turning it around. I think that next time, if there is a next time, I will
insert the pieces into another panel so that the surface will be flat.

Great work I really like the raised Cinderella.

Hey she'll like it more at 2 because now it's not just a toy box but a
castle, a boat and whatever else a 2-year old imagination can come up with.

Beautiful.

I absolutely will NOT let either of my granddaughters see these
pictures! No way I could produce two heirlooms in an acceptable time
frame...
